Classic Expanded Perlite
Classic Expanded Perlite is produced by rapidly heating perlite ore under controlled conditions, softening its glass structure and converting the water within it into steam, which causes the particles to expand.
Classic Expanded Perlite is a lightweight, porous material produced by rapidly heating natural perlite ore under controlled conditions. During heating, the glass structure softens and the water within it turns to steam, causing the particles to expand. This transformation increases the material’s volume while reducing its bulk density. The resulting cellular structure provides thermal insulation, liquid retention and, in suitable applications, sound absorption.
Before expansion, the ore is prepared through crushing, screening and, where necessary, drying to achieve the required particle size distribution and moisture content. Feed rate, furnace temperature and residence time are adjusted according to the ore characteristics and target product specifications. These variables influence the final product’s bulk density, pore structure, particle strength and degree of expansion.
The MinaEx series comprises Classic Expanded Perlite products for construction, cryogenic insulation, agriculture and horticulture, liquid absorption, specific applications in the food and feed sectors, and other industrial uses. Different grades are supplied with particle size distributions and bulk densities tailored to their intended applications. Product selection is based on requirements such as low weight, thermal insulation, drainage, aeration and liquid retention.
Production takes place at four separate expansion plants in Spain. Integrated process control enables key production variables to be monitored and adjusted, supporting consistent product quality and the required application performance across all facilities.
